Buy Cow Dung Manure Online? Read This Khaad Guide First
Before you buy khaad online, learn when cow dung manure helps, when vermicompost is safer and how to compare the real price per kg.

From Sarvada Organic's farm team, based on small-batch vermicompost production and Indian balcony-garden support since 2018.

If you want to buy cow dung manure online, pause for one minute and ask what the plant actually needs. Well-rotted cow dung manure helps outdoor soil. For balcony pots, indoor plants, herbs and tomatoes, pure vermicompost is usually the safer khaad to order.
Updated July 2026 with current vermicompost pack prices and a clearer per-kg comparison so you can buy vermicompost online in India without guessing from bag size alone.
The word khaad gets used for many things: cow dung manure, vermicompost, compost, potting mix, neem cake and even chemical fertilizer. That is why online shopping becomes confusing. It is like buying atta, besan and suji under one label called flour. All are useful, but not for the same recipe.
At Sarvada, we see the same mistake often: beginners do not struggle because they bought khaad. They struggle because the khaad did not match the pot, the plant or the season.
Quick buying rule
Which khaad should you buy online?
| What you need | Best choice | Why | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly food for home pots | Vermicompost | Mild, crumbly and easy to dose | Fresh dung or strong chemical fertilizer |
| Preparing an outdoor garden bed | Well-rotted cow dung manure | Adds bulk organic matter to soil | Half-rotted manure with sharp smell |
| Filling new pots | Potting mix plus vermicompost | Roots need air, structure and slow food | Only garden soil or only compost |
| Indoor plants | Pure vermicompost in small doses | Low smell and low burn risk | Heavy manure, wet compost or daily feeding |
| Tomato, chilli and brinjal pots | Vermicompost plus airy soil mix | Feeds slowly through flowering and fruiting | Tiny pots, poor drainage and excess nitrogen |
Buy cow dung manure online only if it is well-rotted
Cow dung manure is not bad. Fresh cow dung is the problem. Good manure should be dark, earthy, cool to touch and not sharp-smelling. If it smells like ammonia, it is still too fresh for delicate roots.
TNAU Agritech describes farmyard manure as decomposed dung, urine, bedding and fodder waste, and notes that the material needs months to become ready. Colorado State University Extension also warns that fresh manure can burn plants because of ammonia and salts.
When cow dung manure makes sense
- Before planting in an outdoor bed or farm patch.
- When you need to improve a large amount of poor soil cheaply.
- When the manure is fully decomposed and has no strong smell.
- When you can mix it into soil and wait before planting.
When cow dung manure is the wrong choice
- Small indoor pots where smell and moisture stay trapped.
- Seed trays, cuttings and young roots.
- Food pots where the manure is fresh or unknown.
- Any pot that already stays wet after watering.
Vermicompost price: compare per kg, not just bag price
When people check vermicompost price, they usually look only at the bag price. That is where online buying gets tricky. A 1 kg trial pack will look cheaper than a 5 kg or 25 kg pack, but the per-kg price usually drops with the larger size.
| Pack | Price | Approx. price per kg | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kg | Rs. 149 | Rs. 149/kg | Trying vermicompost or feeding a few pots |
| 5 kg | Rs. 249 | About Rs. 50/kg | Most balcony gardens |
| 10 kg | Rs. 1,099 | About Rs. 110/kg | Larger plant collections |
| 25 kg | Rs. 2,499 | About Rs. 100/kg | Terrace gardens and bulk use |
Online prices change with delivery cost, packaging and offers. The useful check is simple: ask how much pure material reaches your pot. A low price is not a saving if the bag is cut with silt, sand or half-made compost.
For current pack options, compare the Sarvada vermicompost collection. If you are unsure how long a bag will last, use the spoon and teacup guide for vermicompost before buying.
Vermicompost near me vs online delivery
Searching vermicompost near me is useful when you need a bag today or want to inspect the compost by hand. Online buying is better when you want repeatable quality, clear pack sizes, delivery and easy comparison.
| Option | Good for | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Local nursery | Urgent small purchase | Smell, texture, moisture and whether the bag is sealed |
| Local vermicompost unit | Bulk purchase nearby | What feedstock they use and how long it is cured |
| Online brand | Home delivery and consistent packs | Reviews, return policy, actual weight and silt-free claim |
What good organic fertilizers should look and feel like
Good organic fertilizers for home plants should be boring in the best way: earthy smell, crumbly texture, no sharp ammonia smell, no plastic bits, no grey dust cloud, and no hard clay feeling after watering. A natural plant fertilizer should make the soil feel alive, not sealed.
If you are filling a fresh container, pair the fertilizer with the right potting mix recipe. Food works only when roots also get air and drainage.
- Smell: earthy, like soil after rain.
- Texture: crumbly, not sticky clay.
- Moisture: slightly damp, not dripping wet.
- Weight: not suspiciously heavy for the pack size.
- Use: clear directions for pots, beds and plants.
Simple buying plan for beginners
- Count your pots and separate indoor plants from vegetables.
- Buy vermicompost first if you need regular feeding.
- Buy potting mix if you are filling new pots.
- Buy cow dung manure only for outdoor beds or large soil mixing.
- Start with 1 kg if you have fewer than 10 small pots.
- Choose 5 kg if you have a mixed balcony garden or grow bags.

Frequently asked questions
Usually no. Indoor plants do better with small doses of pure vermicompost because cow dung manure can smell, stay wet and burn roots if it is not fully decomposed.
For most home pots, pure vermicompost is the safest first choice. For outdoor beds, well-rotted cow dung manure is useful. For new pots, use a potting mix with vermicompost.

In most Indian gardening shops, vermi khad means vermicompost or earthworm castings. Check that it is crumbly, earthy and not mixed with silt.
Nearby vermicompost is good if you can inspect it. Online vermicompost is better when you want fixed pack sizes, delivery and consistent quality from a known brand.
Yes, but use well-rotted cow dung manure in outdoor beds and vermicompost in pots. Do not mix fresh cow dung into containers or seed trays.
